Online Consultations

Get a consultation from the comfort of your own home

Given the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on travel and social engagements we at Midlands Colorectal are providing online video consultations for patients, so you can get a consultation from the safety of your home.

Online consultations

Online consultations are a convenient way to discuss a medical problem with your doctor. They offer an opportunity to discuss your problems with a surgeon or doctor. It is however important to realise that they are not a replacement for a face-to-face consultation to make a diagnosis.

Online consultations make sense when:

  • Discussing treatment options for your condition once they have already been diagnosed.
  • Obtaining advice and reassurance about risk factors, symptoms and signs of conditions such as cancer.
  • An alternative to a face-to-face follow up for chronic conditions that require a follow-up.

Any subsequent face to face consultation will be free of charge. There may be a charge for any further diagnostic tests or outpatient treatment. (e.g. rigid sigmoidoscopy or out patient treatment of haemorrhoids.)

What will I need for the consultation?

  • A smartphone, either with working Wifi/3G/4G connection
  • Your Internet Browser needs to have your phone's microphone and camera enabled (you can see how to alter this in your phone settings here).

You could choose if you prefer a telephone or video consultation and let us know at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How secure are the video consultations?

A. The video consultation service is hosted on a platform fully compliant with GDPR.

A unique URL to the video consultation is generated and all participants are visible in the consultation, no third party can 'listen in'. The video and audio communication is only visible to participants on the call and is not recorded or stored on any server. The connection prioritises ‘peer-to-peer’ between the clinician’s and patient’s phone and follows NHS best practice guidelines on health and social care cloud security.

Q: Are they recorded?

A. No. The video and audio communication is only visible to participants on the call and is not recorded or stored in any form.

Q: Can I use my personal phone for the consultation?

A. Yes, as long as your video and speaker is enabled.

Q: Can I have my online consultation at a time to suit me?

A. Absolutely. Midlands Colorectal will arrange as mutually convenient time between your self and Mr Peravali.  Appointments are available on most days including weekends and are flexible to suit our patient’s needs.

Q: Must I already have received a diagnosis to have an online consultation?

A. No you can choose to discuss your problems with your doctor and whether you need further face to face consultation to confirm your diagnosis and any tests at a later date. Often these consultations are able to offer you reassurance in the first instance and also get guidance if you need to seek more urgent medical attention.

Q. Can I have someone with me when I have my online consultation ie a family member or friend who may also wish to ask questions relating to my condition?

A. Yes, you can choose to have anyone with you during the consultation and they are able to ask questions on your behalf if you wish them to.

Q. Following my initial online consultation, will my GP and I get any letters?

A. Yes, you and your GP will receive a letter with a summary of the consultation and any further plans that are being made.

Q. If I need further appointments, what charges will I pay?

A. Your initial virtual consulation will be charged at £200.  One subsequent face to face consultation will be free of charge. There may be a charge for any further diagnostic tests or outpatient treatment. (e.g. rigid sigmoidoscopy or out patient treatment of haemorrhoids.)

What Patients Say

“I cannot fault the care I received”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team for the care and kindness you showed me before during and after my prolapse operation.  I cannot fault the care I received and I hope you carry on providing this high level of care to your patients.

Mrs. F.A.

“I have no hesitation in recommending your skills to other people”

You carried out an operation for my abdominal hernias at Spire Little Aston Hospital.

I wish to express my thanks to you and your staff for the high standard of clinical and patient care I received. The pain and discomfort from the hernias have gone and I now feel so much better after the operation.

Thank you so much and I have no hesitation in recommending your skills to other people with similar problems.

Mr. B.B.

“The care I received was first class”

Just a short note to thank you and your team for the treatment and care you gave me during and after my cancer operation.

After first meeting you,  both my wife and myself had total confidence in you. What really impressed us was the aftercare you and your team provided.

The care I received was first class and I witnessed first-hand how dedicated you and your team are to your patients.

Mr. L.D. & Mrs. T.D.

“We really appreciated your honest and comforting approach”

I would like to say a big thank you to you for my mom’s treatment. We really appreciated your honest and comforting approach and support – sometimes with not good news but always with a smile, a plan and complete reassurance that in your hands my mom would be ok.

We particularly welcomed your well needed lightness and laughter.  On the day of the surgery you took time to talk to my mom as well as myself and my sister which really helped us all. My mom has made a fantastic recovery and is better than ever – thank you once again and we will be for ever indebted to you.

Mrs. M.K.

“Excellent outcome”

We are writing to say how pleased we are with Dr Rajeev Peravali who saved my mum’s life in March when she was admitted to Hospital with severe abdominal pain. She had an ileostomy at the time. He subsequently reversed her ileostomy and has had an excellent outcome once again thanks to Dr Peravali.

Mrs. A.S. & family

“I will never be able to thank you enough”

I am writing to express my gratitude for the treatment I received at your hands. Everyone was so wonderful. The day I was admitted to hospital was one of the toughest times in my life. The personal attention and kindness shown by you, coupled by the caring attitude of the hospital staff helped me overcome my fears about surgery.

I want you to know that you are doing a wonderful job and I will never be able to thank you enough. The support and advice I received from you before undergoing the surgery was crucial in my speedy recovery. I will recommend you not just as a doctor but also as a great human being who is a good listener with lots of patience with a caring attitude.

Mr. I. W.
